Alright, mate.

What I'm about to ask you reveals your level of emotional development as a man.

How do you show up when a woman's emotions get intense?

When she raises her voice.

When she goes silent at a tense moment.

When her eyes fill with tears in the middle of an argument.

Or when she just cries in hopelessness at something in her life unrelated to you.

What happens inside you?

If you're anything like most of the people-pleasing nice guys I've worked with over the years, you might:

  • Absorb her emotions and become consumed by them.

  • Feel instantly responsible and try to fix everything.

  • Apologise and fawn (especially if she's mad at you).

  • Crack jokes and fill the silence with chitchat.

  • Anything, anything at all, to make the feeling in the room stop.

These reactions are a telltale sign that a man can't regulate and be with emotions.

His own, or anybody else's.

And this kills respect.

Because when her emotions run high (and they will), you'll self-abandon and say whatever it takes to keep the peace.

Resentment builds on both sides.

And as she watches you crumble in moments of emotional depth, she stops seeing a man she can trust to lead her and starts seeing a boy.

That's when the respect, admiration and attraction she once felt for you begin to die.

So why do Nice Guys crumble during emotional depth in the first place?

Because her intensity threatens to bring you into contact with emotions you haven't allowed yourself to feel yet.

Your entire life, you've been the good boy.

The put-together one.

The one who fixes everyone else's problems at the expense of himself.

There was never any room for your feelings, so you buried them.

But that mass of buried feelings is a Pandora's box.

When a woman feels her emotions fully, it threatens to crack the lid and you don't know what's going to flood out.

Maybe you'll lose control (or so you think).

Maybe you'll feel things just as vulnerably as she does, and she'll see you as weak and leave you for a more "alpha" man.

Whatever the story, the fear is the same: you can't handle what's in the box.

If you want to stop feeling like a boy around women and become the grounded relational leader women trust, respect and admire (the kind who doesn't twist himself into a fucking pretzel for their approval) … start with this simple, boring practice:

Every day, sit your ass down for at least 10 minutes and do not move a muscle.

Call it meditation if you want, but there's no app, no technique, no incense.

You're simply pressing pause and noticing what's here.

Sometimes it will be pleasant. Sometimes it won't be.

But slowing the fuck down and paying attention is how you become a man who isn't afraid of depth.

When you can calmly sit in that depth during a woman's emotional firestorm, you'll build a level of internal self-trust, respect and confidence you never thought possible.

I’ll tell you from experience, when you become capable of this, you may see a side to women that you didn’t know existed.

Stay courageous,

Oliver

P.S. Training exactly this capacity is phase two of the work I do with men 1:1 (I call it the Grounding Protocol). I take on a couple of new clients a month; if you want one of the spots, start here.
